The new moon offers a sacred moment to pause, reflect, and set gentle intentions. Embrace this quiet lunar phase to reconnect with your inner wisdom and dream your desires into being.
‘The new moon is a time of darkness, it’s a time of going withing, and sensing what you truly want to manifest’ – Cat Rowe
Get ritual-ready
- If you’re busy on the night of the new moon, choose an evening as near to it as you can. ‘If it’s a day later or a day before, that’s fi ne,’ says Cat. ‘Sometimes, life just gets in the way.’
- Don’t be a perfectionist. If you don’t have a special notebook, use any piece of plain paper – but not the one you’ve written your shopping list on.
- If you find it hard to settle, do some physical activity first, such as yoga, to get into your body.
- Ideally, give yourself at least an hour for the ceremony. Don’t rush it, and make sure you won’t be disturbed while it’s happening.
- Go to bed early on the night of a new moon. ‘You’re planting a seed, and then you want to put soil over it and pat it down, which means going to bed early,’ says Cat. ‘You’re dreaming it into being.’
Visualise your wishes as having come true. Pay attention to how your body feels as you picture this scenario. Use all your senses to imagine it as if it were happening now.

Create a Lunar wish-list
Try this seven-step new moon ceremony:
- Set the scene. Switch off your phone, light a candle, or burn some incense and create a cosy space for yourself. A special journal and pens will enhance the sense of ritual.
- Take some healing breaths and send out gratitude for a few good things or people in your life.
- Meditate on what your heart desires and ask for a symbol that encapsulates this.
- Visualise your wishes as having come true.

- Write down your wishes and any actions you need to take.
- Finish with some more full-body breaths and send off your wishes with the blessing “For the good of all, or not at all.”
On the night of the next new moon, return to your written wishes and desired actions.
Is there anything you want to change or add as you prepare to repeat the ritual?
