The pillow method invites you to set a clear intention, place it beneath your pillow, and let your subconscious do the rest.
STEP 1
Write down an affirmation. It could be something you want to achieve, an action you want to take, or a life goal. Be as specific as you can. The key is to put your affirmation in the present tense, as if it’s already happened. For example, if you want a change in your career, your affirmation could be: ‘I am happy and fulfilled in my new job.’
STEP 2
Spend some time before you go to bed reading your affirmation and thinking about how you would feel once you’ve achieved your goal. You might meditate or journal to focus your energy on what you want. Involve your senses – think about how your desired reality might look, smell, feel, and taste.
STEP 3
Put the piece of paper under your pillow and then go to sleep as you would normally. There’s no need to deviate from your typical bedtime routine, but you could try visualising what you’re trying to manifest as you fall asleep. If this makes you feel anxious, though, or stops you falling asleep, just let go and allow your subconscious to do the work instead.

STEP 4
Wake up the following morning and go about your life as usual. You don’t need to do anything differently or even look at your piece of paper if you don’t feel the urge to. You might remember dreaming about your affirmation, but it doesn’t matter if you don’t.
STEP 5
For maximum impact, most practitioners suggest repeating the same affirmation and technique over a number of evenings, so don’t forget to do the same thing tomorrow night, too. You can reuse the same piece of paper, but be sure to reread it and refocus your mind on it before bedtime, or you might find that writing down your goal again makes it feel more powerful.
STEP 6
Once you’ve worked on the same affirmation for about a week, it’s a good idea to let it go and give your manifestation over to the universe. You could keep the note tucked into your journal, pin it somewhere you can see it as a reminder, add it to a vision board, or even take it outdoors and burn it.
